About this event
Nodal points are understood to be key locations, intersections, or moments where different elements converge, interact, and connect to create a parallel emergent ray. Drawing on the idea of a node, unique but like-minded artistes from various walks of life will be coming together for this production, as "nodal points" who delve in cross-genre practice themselves, to create meaning and connection, or "rays". "NODAL P.O.I.N.T.S" would be the next growth step in UTB's body of work. It has treated it's past work and unique movement language itself as "nodal points"; exemplified by hybridity and a genre-blurring character. UTB dancers view their dance bodies as a lens, where different genres have connected to emerge a unique ray of hybridity.
This production aims to create a space where differences dissolve and a shared language of movement emerges, and to invite the audience question fixed definitions and embrace the richness that comes from difference, ultimately finding unity in the fusion of diverse voices. Drawing from diverse cultural traditions, movement vocabularies, and artistic disciplines, the production weaves a tapestry of interconnectedness where the edges of identity, form, and style blur into one fluid expression.
Anchored by 5 works created namely by ; Shahrin Johry, Sufri Juwahir, Shahizman Sulaiman, Shruthi Nair and Hirzi Jasmin; each showcasing unique expression with the common thread of hybridity present in all works, the production will also feature 2 cross-genre works by local and international artistes, to share and amplify the hybrid space we are creating.
